The location in Shijia Hutong was excellent - a very short walk to main shopping streets, buses, taxis, etc. The room furnishings were beautiful - all Chinese antiques except for a modern bed and bathroom and flat screen TV. A gorgeous breakfast buffet (with Chinese, American, and European selections) was available for an extra cost at a sister hotel a few steps from Shijia House.
The heating system was new and not controllable from our room. The bathroom was way too hot with no way to cool it off.

The location was excellent. Very close to a metro stop, but tucked away on a hutong.
I could not access the wireless while I was there, which was frustrating.

Staff were extremelly helpful, the hotel is central, you are in the middle of hutongs which adds a special feeling for your stay, and the room had cozy designs.

The staff was very friendly and responsive. They booked tickets for us, organized taxis and gave various tips and advice on how to get around, where to go etc. The hotel and inner court offered a surprisingly quiet and tranquil place to rest in the middle of a bustling city. The room was beautifully decorated.
The breakfast could have been more varied, they offered only one set type of breakfast (western) and since we stayed for eight nights some variation would have been nice.

The privacy and the design of the rooms. The courtyard creates a proper ambiance of a hutong.
The reception was very much like an hostel one, though the prices are not. To charge those prices they have to offfer more.
